Frederik Lund Ottesen (1913–1975) was an American abstract and figurative painter best known for mid-century modern abstract compositions, textured works, and expressive paintings.

Born in Pittsburgh to a family of Norwegian descent, Ottesen studied at the University of Gettysburg before attending the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), where he won the school's top prize.

He arrived in Paris in 1938 and entered the atelier of legendary cubist painter Georges Braque. He exhibited with the Galerie des Quatre Chemins until World War II disrupted his career.

 Following a distinguished military service career, Ottesen returned to France, where he befriended abstract pioneer Hans Hartung. Influenced by this circle, he transitioned significantly into painting abstractions.  Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, he exhibited extensively across Europe and maintained prominent gallery affiliations with Galerie Coard in Paris and the Downtown Gallery in New York.

His works are highly regarded for their dynamic textures, ink wash applications, and contrasting geometric/sweeping dark strokes
